Our Beginnings
In the Fall of 1999, a young couple landed at JFK airport with all their belongings in 5 boxes, their 1 ½ year old son on their back, and a bright dream to see New York City touched and changed by God! They came knowing no-one, but God soon started knitting a small group of like-minded believers together and a church was birthed. The first few meetings were held in the Barson family’s apartment at the top of a 5 floor walk up above a Chinese Restaurant in midtown! At the end of January 2000 they were able to their first public venue, a business executive hotel on 45th St & 6th Ave in Manhattan.
In these humble beginnings, there were seldom crowds of people or overflowing coffers but the church was always marked by the sweetness of God’s presence in times of worship, a preaching of the word of God with conviction and a vibrant sense of community. Today, members hail from all 5 boroughs as well as New Jersey and Westchester, from many different backgrounds and walks of life and the church meets in the Director’s Guild Theater near Carnegie Hall , but these characteristics have remained.
